  • Joey is availble to foster to help give him experience in a home enviroment and get him out of living in kennels in his young age as he really needs this vital time period of socialising & positive experiences. If you would like more infomation on fostering Joey please email us.

My story so far…

Hi I’m Joey! I came to the Sanctuary when they offered me a rescue space after I ended up in pound kennels and at the risk of loosing my life if no rescues could take me.

As a stray in the pound, there is no known history on me but my carers say I am a super sweet energetic boy who loves to learn and have a cuddle or a play with my humans.

I really love my soft toys and tennis balls and while squeaky toys look really fun I’m still not sure what they are yet so I tilt my head to let my big ears hear them but I’m not too sure about picking them up.

I have been through so much considering my young age and although I am doing really well at the Sanctuary I really need to find my forever home so I can start having new experiences, socialising and having my puppyhood in a home not a kennel.

Home I am looking for…

I’m looking for a large dog breed experienced foster home where I can get all the time and attention I need. As I am just a young puppy still, I am going to need lots of training, teaching me all the puppy basics and giving me the foundations, socialisation and stable environment I need to grow into a well behaved dog.

My carers here say I can be quite needy & vocal when they leave me alone in my kennel but I do quickly settle back down once they are out of sight. Of course I am still just a puppy so this is quite understandable as I really need to be with others and as they don’t know any history on me it may well be I am not used to being left on my own at all.

I need someone who is around most of the day who would be able to give me the attention I need while putting the basic puppy training into place. Once I have settled in and had some training on being left my carers think I could be left up to a couple of hours but to begin with I couldnt really be left for that long as I could get bored and destructive. I really am a cuddle bug and love to just be with you, although I don’t quite realise how big I am yet and I think I’m still a little puppy! I have lots of energy but once I have got it out of my system with a walk or a play I do settle down and go back to being a cuddle bug.

I am going to be a very large dog and so I need a home that is experienced or willing to do extensive research about large breeds.

Lots of change and busy days can be a little bit overwhelming for me so I would prefer a quiet stable home. I would enjoy going out on adventures and living life but I need further training as I can get a bit excited and as I am already large and going to be even bigger I need to be on my best behaviour when out in public spaces.

Recently I’ve been going on walks with some of the staff & volunteers dogs here at the Sanctuary and I absolutely love other dogs and I’m good at listening if they tell me I’m too much or if I accidentally run into them with my big legs. So I would be happy in a home with other well-behaved dogs that can show me the ropes and play with me but give me clear signals & boundaries.

I’ve also been met some of the cats at the Sanctuary and although none of them really liked me (probably as I’m so big as they like smaller dogs). I did really well and listened when they said to go away and I was wary enough to not try bothering them again but I wasnt scared of them I just kept my distance and had yummy food from my carer instead. So I could live with a cat who would be confident around a big dog like me as I am quite respectful if they tell me if I’m too much (I just want to be friends).

Behaviour & Training

I’ve already shown how smart I am and how much I love to learn!! Which is why I need someone who would be willing to take me to training classes and dedicate the time to follow my training consistently each day.

Being such a young boy I’m still learning, my carers have been playing training games with me that are super fun. I am now able to sit and wait for my food to be put down (even as drool comes out I stay sat like a good boy). I’m getting a lot better at not jumping up or pulling on the lead like I was doing when I first came to the Sanctuary.

As I am already a large size and getting much bigger I do need handlers that can manage my size & strength especially while I’m still learning and can’t always control myself when I get excited so I may pull, jump up or knock into you. Once I’m in a home I need my new humans to keep up with my training as I really love it and it helps shape me into the “good boy” I get told I am.

I went on a road walk with one of my carers to start getting me used to the outside world and walking nicely on the lead. They said I did amazing!!! Of course I was quite excited so I had a few of my kangaroo jumps but I quickly settled down and walked beautifully with lots of praise & rewards to tell me what a good boy I was being!

My Carers will help whoever takes me and make sure they know what training I am doing and give support as we go for any advice or bumps we hit along the road

Medical History…

As a puppy with an unknown history Joey had some worms when he came to us, he has been treated and will need monthly worming (most puppies are wormed monthly up to 6 months of age) as it is unknown what Joey’s start to life has been it is best for us to continue to worm him monthly for now as he may have missed out in his earlier months.

Joey is under the age he can be neutered and will be rehomed with a neuter contract so any potentail adopters must sign this and agree to get me neutered as soon as the time is right, most likely once I am 18months to 2 years of age. But until then I would need to be kept on lead and only have supervised walks & mixes with dogs that have been neutered.

Things to note…

Anyone looking to foster or adopt me must be prepared to follow the training plan provided by the Sanctuary and any advice they give.

If fostering me you must keep in regular contact with the Sanctuary on my progress and general wellbeing.

You can help support Joey by donating using the button below.

Your donations help us provide Joey with everything he needs (food, bedding, Veterinary care, heating and so much more) and it can help us save another dog like Joey who is in desperate need of help from a rescue

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.

Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our animals to the right home for them.
