Wythall Animal Sanctuary
About
Our vision is simple: to help as many animals in our community as possible. You can help us achieve this:
The Charity
We are a registered, independent charity who have been looking after and rehoming animals for over 50 years. We are a non-destruct sanctuary, keeping animals for as long as is needed until they find their forever homes, or occasionally for the entirety of their lives. We rely solely on donations and are grateful to all of our supporters who regularly donate funds, goods and their time to help our cause.
Our History
Wythall Animal Sanctuary was founded by Dave and Kath Davies, a couple who devoted their lives to caring for animals in need. They moved to this site in 1963, when needing more room after rescuing a horse who was found to be pregnant. They then started taking in and helping more and more animals, and in 1968 they applied to become a charity. The Sanctuary has now been running for over 50 years and still works to the same values: to shelter and help rehome as many animals as we can.
Over the years there has been many different species come through our doors, though we now primarily focus on dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, and we also have our 2 resident ponies.
Our Sanctuary
The Sanctuary has certainly changed over the years, but the site is now made up of two dog rehoming buildings, a lovely cattery and a separate unit for mother cats and kittens and a building with built in hutches and runs for rabbits and guinea pigs. We also have the stables and paddocks where our resident ponies Alfie & Bungle live, and a lovely garden area called ‘The Mews’ where our resident cats live. We are very lucky to have 3 acres of field where we can exercise our dogs.
Most of our animals can be adopted out to find wonderful new homes, but we do also offer a Sanctuary for those that are unable to be rehomed, for whatever reason. If they are not able to go to homes of their own, then they will always have a space here with us for as long as needed. You will find most of our resident animals available to sponsor on our ‘Support Us’ page.
We also have an excellent dog boarding facility on site, which helps to generate income for the rescue animals.
