My story so far…

Hi I’m Crumpet! You may recognise me as I was recently returned to the Sanctuary after being adopted a few months ago.

My adopter said I did really well in the home and for the most part was a really good boy. Unfortunately, after an sudden incident in the home, I had to come back to the Sanctuary. It is not clear why, but one night I suddenly became reactive to one of the people in the home.

My adopters handled the situation well but both they and the Sanctuary felt it was best for me to come back and be re-assessed as this behaviour was very out of character for me.

Home I am looking for…

I’m looking for a large dog breed experienced home who can continue my training. My carers cannot say enough what a sweet a loving boy I am! I do need an adult only home with people that understand and have researched my breed and know how to handle large dogs like me.

Due to my size and nature I really would like a home in a quiet or rural area with a secure garden or outdoor space that I could sunbathe and spend time with you in.

I absolutely love my toys, treats and my people. I really love other dogs too!! My adopter said I got on with every dog I met. Here at the Sanctuary I only have a few dog friends as a lot of the dogs here don’t always like other dogs, especially big dogs like me. Luckily some of the staff and volunteers bring their dogs in for me so I still get to play and hang out with other dogs!!

My carers think I’d really love a home with another dog in that I can play with and just hang out with as I love the company. Due to my size I do need medium - larger friends as I am such a big boy I can accidentally squish smaller dogs (like my friend little Mouse in the photo, luckily she just runs through my legs or tells me off if I get too much). But I could also happily live by myself with my people and have dog friends on walks instead.

I would prefer a home with few to no visitors coming into the home as I value my home as my safe space. If there are visitors I might prefer to be in a separate quiet area of the house with a tasty chew or kong to keep me busy. I have always been fine around visitors in my last home but my carers feel that even though I am super loving and friendly to everyone, having people come into my safe space might cause me some stress that is hard to notice.

Behaviour & Training

Since coming back to the Sanctuary my carer has been doing lots of training with me and I have been loving it! I really want to please my people (especially if there are tasty snacks or a squeaky toy involved). I sit and wait as we go through different gates, I’m doing really well at walking on a loose leash and I’ve been doing some muzzle training as wearing a muzzle can be really helpful.

I really need someone who would be willing to continue the training my carer does with me and implement management techniques in the home that will really help me.

I do have some protective tendencies, this means I can be quite reactive through a barrier like a gate or a door but after a quick introduction I love everyone I meet. Once I am strongly bonded with someone these tendencies can increase but with the training and management my carers put into place this is very manageable.

Anyone wanting to adopt me must be willing to follow my training plan & continue this once I am in a home and my carer will be there to support them the entire time.

Things to note…

Anyone looking to foster or adopt me must be prepared to follow the training plan provided by the Sanctuary and any advice they give.

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.

Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our animals to the right home for them.
