Hi there!

My name is Ruby

I came in to the sanctuary in August 2024 as a terribly ill stray cat, I was covered in fleas and severely underweight, but regardless of these conditions all that I wanted was fuss from anyone.

The people who found me think that I might have been abandoned by my previous owners. I was so hungry the second I came in and ate up all of the food that I was given!

Although my brain isn’t picky my tummy is!

Since entering my sanctuary I had ongoing bowel issues for a few weeks and it became clear that I had been hit with a nasty case of bacteria and so after a variety of antibiotics my toileting became healthier!

Due to my sensitive stomach I am still on a bland diet with probiotic supplements to give my tummy a better chance of digesting!

After my carers took me in, they brought me to their vets to have a full health check and blood tests. It turned out that I have a condition called hyperthyroidism, this means my thyroid over produces hormones that will cause weight loss while still having a big appetite.

I have also had to have four teth removed since my stay at my sanctuary, as well as my remaining teeth cleaned. My vets did note that there is still some gingivitis in my mouth so I will be having regular dental check-ups to give me the best chance at looking after my teeth!

Being a former stray cat I have a very strong drive for food as in the past I would not have known when my next meal could be. This behaviour has stayed with me and has potentially also been a side-effect from my hyperthyroid, but since coming here I have consistently been putting on weight and I get treated like the royalty I am!

While I do love cuddles, they have to be on my terms and I can be a little grouchy as an older cat. I would much rather find a comfy spot and have a lovely snooze!

I now receive medication (thyronorm) to keep my thyroid in check, this is something that I will need to receive for the rest of my life to keep me comfortable and healthy, but it can be quite expensive! My carers say that they will do everything they can to make sure I am as comfortable as possible.

Please Sponsor Me

So that I never have to experience another day of not knowing when my next meal may be.

To help pay towards my life-saving medication that gives me the opportunity to express my behaviours as a healthy cat.

To give me the best chance at living in a safe environment where I feel comfortable to be myself and accepted.

And so I can keep sneaking into the kitchen to try for another meal that I REALLY need!!!
