My story so far…

I came into the sanctuary through no fault of my own or my previous owners and am now looking for my forever home to provide me with a life of love and excitement!

I am a super duper high energy boy so need owners that can channel my energy in the right places, without me getting overstimulated. I react really well to enrichment and it calms me right down so that I can have a snooze. I love my toys and playing with my sister in the garden too.

I would be the perfect dog to train to do agility as I am VERY quick and can jump very high, with ease!

Home I am looking for…

I would like a home with adults only, or with older children. The reason for this is due to my nipping and mouthing behaviour. Me and children would struggle to understand each others behaviour so I’d just prefer not to have young ones in my home. I can very easily become overstimulated and it is a lot of work to get me to calm down, which children may not be able to understand and they may make my behaviours worse without meaning to, therefore it would just be in my best interests not to share my home with them. I am young enough to be trained and therefore could be around occasional visiting children for some supervised playtime.

I need patient owners that will help me overcome my overstimulated nipping and mouthing and not make it worse. My foster carer can give pointers on this.

I could live with another well mannered dog (must be neutered and vaccinated). The reason for this is that it will help me with my socialisation, at such a young age. When I first arrived at my foster carers, she could see a lot of my energy was pent up and I was desperate to play but I just didn’t know how. I have been learning how to play with my foster sister and although we love to wrestle at times, she has taught me so much. Being able to live with her has given me invaluable social skills and this needs to continue in future homes with resident dogs or by taking me out with canine friends.

I can live with confident, dog-savvy cats (neutered and vaccinated). I can chase if cats run away, so they must be cats that will tell me clearly to leave them alone, and I will listen.

I am crate trained and my carers would recommend using the crate in the home to begin with.

I can be left up to 4 hours. As long as I get enough exercise and stimulation, I am absolutely fine with being left for this long and will not bark/cry.

Behaviour & Training

My nipping and mouthing behaviours tend to arise in excitement or overstimulation - but once I start, it is very difficult to get me to stop. My carer has tried redirecting my focus on toys and treats which works sometimes and is still very valuable, but other times I just find hands and ankles far more exciting, so tend to go for them instead! Interacting with other well behaved dogs in the home has helped with this considerably, and my carers are happy to say for the most part it is no longer an issue.

I would really benefit from group socialisation classes out on walks where there are dogs and distractions, so that my owner focus can be built up and I can learn to be a socially acceptable pooch.

I would also benefit from some one to one behavioural classes for my nipping and for general obedience. I am really smart so can be taught different commands to make life a lot easier for the both of us. If I know what you want for me - I will do it for some kibble or a treat!

I have a routine at the moment and it is working really well for me so it would be great if my next home could help structure a routine for me to help me feel secure and safe in my new home.

I can occasionally be a bit cheeky and try to steal things I shouldn’t have. These things are high value to me but my fosterer asks me to “leave it” and then she will give me something even better! I do not resource guard but could in the future if these commands are not solidified, and if things are taken off me with no reward! My foster carer is so proud of the progress I have made with this.

I am so young that it would be a good idea to muzzle train me in later life, should I ever need it.

Medical History…

I haven’t been neutered just yet, so will come with a neutering contract to make sure my owners do, when I am old enough.

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
