My story so far…

I was adopted from the sanctuary in December 2021 and I lived happily in a home up until recently. Circumstances out of my adopters control meant they had to heartbreakingly make the decision to bring me back to the sanctuary, to keep me safe and find me a new loving home.

I had originally come to the sanctuary May 2021 as I was struggling to cope in a home with visitors coming in & out and I would get reactive-aggressive as I didnt know how else to cope. I started becoming more reactive to people I didn’t know out and about too and my owners didnt know how to stop this or help me so they knew the best thing was to surrender me to the sanctuary.

It took a long time to find my next home and to find one to stick as I still struggled with my reactivity and meeting new people and I can be a bit pushy and get into bad habits for people who dont know how to handle a big bulldog like me.

However my adopters worked with me and helped me overcome a lot of my reactive behaviours and over time found ways to help me cope with new people.

Once I know you, I am a very loving boy - my issues just stem around strangers!

Home I am looking for…

I need an adult only experienced home with few to no regular visitors as I can still find new people coming into my space stressful.

I could potentially live with another laid back dog that is just happy to share my company but wont pester and jump all over me pending a few successful dog meets here at the Sanctuary then in the home.

I really need someone willing to spend lots of time gaining my trust at the Sanctuary as I have been finding it harder to be around new people again because I am stressed at the Sanctuary it makes my reactive behaviours worse as I am limited on who can interact safely with me.

I am a couch potato as you can see and I just love my snooze time (the majority of my day!) or a sunny spot to bake myself before splodging out in a cool shady spot. I do not understand the meaning of ‘personal space’ and love to sit on your feet or you and squish my face up to you :)

I cannot live with children or be around any visiting children due to my behaviour and history.

I really want to find a foster or adoptive home as I find kennels very stressful & my carers will be on hand to help any foster/ adopters with my behaviours (although with the right person I’m really no hassle, I just need someone who understands me).

Although I am just a big baby really I stil can be a bit of a bully if people dont understand me or how to handle me. I like to play tug with my toys and I am very strong and like to push the toy into you or if I get over excited I might jump up and be pushy to get you to play but because of my strength and size I could Knock you over by accident. So I need a strong capable handler that will play with me but have strict boundaries to prevent this and make sure I dont get into bad habbits of being pushy to get my own way.

Behaviour & Training

I can be a strong boy occasionally so will need a strong and capable handler who will help me and continue my work with me with help from my carers.

I can be reactive to people when out and about, so ideally need someone who will work with me and help me be more calm when I’m around people. Adopters need to advocate for me to give me space. My adopters did really well training me and I really improved but I still need the right person to guide me so I don’t get into bad habits or make mistakes. I will need to be muzzled in certain situations out in public but my carers will guide and support any potential adopters on how to manage me out and about.

People coming into my home have been a big trigger for me in the past. My adopters found I was a lot better meeting people 1-1 in the home with careful introductions so I need someone who can bare this in mind and work with my carers. I would need a space to be put away safely if I do find this too much/ there is any workmen etc needed to enter (I can break through gates so I must be behind a secure door).

I can be very stubborn when I dont want to do something! My carers have found different ways to motivate me or compramises that work for both of us like when I dont feel like going for a walk, they will never force me or drag me. Instead they may go a different route I prefer or bring a dog friend along, or should I really not want a walk they will listen and just sit with me or play with me instead.

I do have a bite history and my new owners must follow instructions by my carers both here at the Sanctuary and once in a home by following my training & management plan. If my plan and training is not followed it could lead to a bite again in the future.

Medical history…

My ears have been quite dirty and inflamed since I came back to the Sanctuary so I have been having them cleaned regularly. I am pleased to say they are doing so much better!

My skin gets quite sore sometimes so I am also getting a few baths to help with it. I’m also on hypoallergenic food to reduce my skin triggers. I now look like a different dog to when I first came back to the Sanctuary and my skin seems under control!

I do need to be muzzled at the vets due to my history, although I am mostly just very squirmy.

Things to note…

Any prospective adopters must be willing to come to the Sanctuary multiple times to get to know me and my quirks before taking me home - so that we are both comfortable with each other!

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.

Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our animals to the right home for them.
